CAR GUY GALLERY
Privacy Policy
Plain-language details about what stays on your device, what may go to iCloud, and the choices you control.
Effective and last updated: July 12, 2026
Overview
Car Guy Gallery (“CGG,” “we,” “us,” or “the app”) is a local-first vehicle gallery and maintenance application. We designed CGG so you can use its core features without creating an account and without sending your garage to us.
We do not sell your personal information, use your data for cross-app tracking, or operate an advertising profile about you. The app does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
This policy applies to the Car Guy Gallery mobile application and this website.
Data you add to the app
Depending on how you use CGG, you may add:
- Vehicle details, such as name, year, make, model, VIN, purchase details, labels, and notes;
- Photos, photo metadata, albums, and tags;
- Odometer, fuel, maintenance, repair, restoration, expense, and reminder records;
- Receipts, invoices, PDFs, and other attachments; and
- App preferences, such as your gallery name, sorting choices, and selected app icon.
This information is stored locally on your device by default. We do not receive or have access to this content merely because you use the app.
iCloud backup and sync
On supported Apple devices, CGG uses Apple iCloud features associated with your Apple ID:
- Automatic iCloud Backup may save private garage snapshots, including database records, photos, and attachments, to your private iCloud storage for recovery.
- Sync across Apple devices, when you enable it, uses your private CloudKit database to synchronize vehicles, records, reminders, preferences, photos, and attachments across your Apple devices.
Apple processes and stores this information under your Apple account and its own terms and privacy policy. We do not operate the iCloud service and cannot view your private iCloud content. You can manage iCloud access through your device’s Apple ID and iCloud settings. Turning off cross-device sync does not necessarily remove an existing iCloud backup.
VIN decoding
If you choose VIN lookup, CGG sends the VIN you enter to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Product Information Catalog (vPIC) service so vehicle details can be decoded. Do not use the lookup feature if you do not want the VIN sent to that government service. CGG does not send your other garage content with the request. NHTSA’s handling of the request is governed by its own privacy practices.
Photos and photo metadata
With your permission, CGG can access photos you select from your photo library. Imported images are copied into app-managed storage. A selected photo may contain metadata supplied by your device or photo library, such as capture date or location information. CGG may use useful metadata to organize or describe the photo. It is stored with your garage and is not used to track your location.
CGG does not request continuous or background location access.
Notifications
If you enable reminders, CGG requests notification permission and schedules service or mileage reminders on your device. Reminder notifications do not require a CGG notification server. On Apple platforms, the app may receive silent notifications from Apple solely to support eligible private CloudKit changes; these are not marketing messages.
Support diagnostics
You may choose Export diagnostics in Settings. This creates a temporary JSON support file on your device containing app and platform status, database integrity information, feature availability, and anonymous record counts. It excludes garage content such as vehicle details, photos, notes, records, attachments, and persistent device identifiers.
The report is not sent automatically. You decide whether and how to share it using your device’s share sheet. A recipient you select will handle the file according to that recipient’s practices. The app removes its temporary export after the share flow when the operating system permits.
Data we collect
We do not operate an app account system or backend that collects your garage content. The current app does not collect analytics, advertising identifiers, or crash telemetry for us. Apple may independently provide developers with aggregated sales, installation, or diagnostic information according to your device and App Store settings.
This static website does not use cookies, analytics, advertising pixels, contact forms, or user accounts. Our hosting and delivery providers may process ordinary technical request information, such as IP address, user agent, requested URL, and timestamp, to deliver and secure the site. We do not use that information to build user profiles.
Data retention and deletion
Local app data remains until you delete individual content, delete a vehicle, clear app data where supported, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling the app may not delete backups or synchronized data held in your private iCloud account.
You can manage or delete iCloud data through Apple’s iCloud settings. Because we cannot access your private on-device or iCloud garage, we generally cannot delete that information on your behalf. If you voluntarily email us or share a diagnostic report, we retain it only as long as reasonably needed to answer your request, maintain security, and meet legal obligations.
Data security
CGG uses operating-system storage and Apple’s private iCloud services where applicable. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure. Protect your device and Apple account with a strong passcode, password, and available multi-factor authentication.
Children’s privacy
CGG is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent personal information directly to us, contact us so we can address it.
International users
Your data is primarily stored on your device and, if you use iCloud features, processed in locations determined by Apple and your Apple account. Information you voluntarily send to support may be processed in the United States.
Depending on where you live, you may have privacy rights concerning information that we possess. Since we generally do not possess your garage data, most access, correction, export, and deletion actions are performed directly in the app or through your Apple account. You may contact us about information you sent directly to support.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when CGG’s features or legal obligations change. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or release notes where appropriate.
